Overview
Southern Hills offers a 3 month pastoral internship for seminary students/graduates. This is a paid internship with housing provided. The internship will run from September 1st - November 30th.
Purpose
The purpose of the pastoral internship program at Southern Hills Bible Church is to equip future pastors to shepherd in small to medium sized churches. It is driven by a conviction that the church is the big deal (Eph. 1:22-23; 3:10, 21) and that lending future pastors a glimpse of this reality in a small church may help them cherish Christ’s quiet work above the recognition of this world.
This equipping involves helping the pastor to be an effective counselor, so interns will begin training in Biblical counseling through the certification process with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
While our ministry focus at Southern Hills Bible Church is to edify and encourage one another, the internship’s primary aim is to serve Christ’s broader church. Thus, while our interns will be expected to serve the local body and live out the one-anothers, their purpose in the program is to learn and observe, not fill gaps in our ministry.
Who Is Southern Hills Bible Church?
Southern Hills Bible Church is a small (100 people) independent church in Custer, South Dakota. We trust in God’s sovereignty, are comforted by our election, submit to the authority of scripture, and strive to live out the one anothers together as God’s family, to his glory.
We function with a plurality of elders, have a strong interest in biblical counseling, and are listed as a 9Marks church. We would be classified as Calvinistic, progressive dispensational, and complementarian.
About Custer
Custer is a small town (population around 2,000) nestled in the Black Hills. Custer is a tourist destination with over 2,000,000 visitors to Custer State Park in 2020. By outsiders, Custer is known for its natural beauty, historic downtown, and abundant wildlife. However, for those of us who live here, we would want to highlight the wonderful people who make up the community. In addition to Custer, our church has many people who commute from surrounding cities such as Rapid City and Hermosa.
